Copacabana

Drunk Bolivians at a festival, and the Isla del Sol

The collectivo from Sorata dropped me on the side of the road in Huarina where I waited for another collectivo to take me to Tiquina. At Tiquina, I took a boat across a small straight on Lake Titicaca and then another collectivo to Copacabana, driving on the shores of the lake.

There was a festival in Copacabana with marching bands, people dancing on the streets and multiple stages with live music. It smelled strongly of beer and urine. Many locals were fairly drunk and urinating everywhere.

I went for lunch and then looked around for a hostel. I checked in and did some work. Later in the afternoon, I walked around town.

The next morning, I took the boat to Isla del Sol at 8:30am. The boat cruised slowly on lake Titicaca and we reached the island at 10am. Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable body of water, at 3,800m above sea level. Once we reached the island, I hiked up the Mirador for a panoramic view of the island and its surrounding and then went to explore the village.

I had lunch, did some work and then took the boat back at 3pm towards Copacabana, where I mostly did work all night.

The next morning, I took the 9am bus to Arequipa, Peru.
