Travel day to Ecuador
36 hours and 3 buses
I caught the 9:45pm bus from Huaraz towards Turjillo. The seat was very comfortable: it reclines to a 180 degrees and has a massaging mechanism. I mostly slept the whole way, with occasionally being awoken when we hit a speed bump.
I made it to Turjillo at around 5am. My bus from Turjillo to Piura was not until 9:30am. In Peru, each bus company has its own bus terminal and they are usually fairly far away from each other. In this case, the two terminals were about 4km apart. So to kill time, I decided to walk though the downtown and see the Plaza de Armas. Shockingly there were still young people out.
I hung out for a bit in the Plaza and then went for a buffet breakfast at a hostel. I then walked for about 30 minutes to the bus terminal. I hadn't purchased a ticket online, and luckily, I was able to purchase the last available seat to Piura. The bus left at 9:30am and we reached Piura at 5pm.
In Piura, I took a 10 minute tuc tuc ride to my next bus terminal and bought a ticket for the bus leaving to Loja, Ecuador at 8pm. I have a few hours to kill, so I walked around in Piura. It is not a very exciting town and did not warrant for me to stay overnight.
Back at the terminal, and while waiting for the bus, Marco (the Italian guy I met during the Uyuni tour) walked in and was taking the same bus.
The bus left at 8pm and drove for about 3 hours to get to the border. We spent around an hour on the border getting eaten by mosquitoes.
We continued on to Loja on windy roads and it was tough to really fall asleep. We got to Loja at around 5am.
