The Julian Alps

Cycling in beautiful Slovenia

Postojna - September 24 to September 26

In Postojna, I checked in to the youth hostel and went for a delicious late lunch. Given that it was a Sunday, most places were closed, so I decided to head back to the hostel to do laundry and work.

The next day, I visited the Postojnska Jama, one of the biggest and most impressive caves in Europe.

The next morning, I cycled to Bovec, on what is probably my favourite bike ride so far. The scenery was just great!

Bovec - September 26 to September 29

Bovec was great! It is surrounded by mountains and seems to be a hiking paradise.

The hostel I stayed in was also really good. On the first night I met David (German living in Amsterdam), Philip (German living in Berlin), and Soo-min (from South Korea, also bike touring).

The next morning, I did the "bucket list" ride, the one I came to do in Slovenia. I went up the Vršič pass, and then got into Austria and Italy, before returning to Bovec. The ride did not disappoint!

The next day, I stayed in to rest the legs, and mostly did work. At night, David, Richard (from Devon, UK), 2 other Germans, and I went for dinner.

On the 29th, it was time for me to leave Bovec and head to Bled. The route goes into Italy before re-entering Slovenia.

Bled - September 29 to October 1

In Bled, I checked in to my hostel. While checking in, I met Tiemen (from Amsterdam). I lent him Rosita so he can go check out some attractions. I did a bit of work and then Tiemen and I went for dinner.

After dinner, I went for a walk around the impressive lake Bled. While trying to capture the perfect picture in the dark, I step on a rock that was covered with algae and slipped and fell in the lake 😂.

The next day, I cycled to see the beautiful Lake Bohinj.

In Bled, I indulged in a few delicious desserts: Blejska Cream Cake and Blejska grmada.
