Sorata
Kick-ass mountain biking
The 150km from La Paz to Sorata took about 3.5 hours, as the road is very windy and going up to 4,500m before reaching Sorata at 2,700m. It started raining as soon as we left La Paz and didn't stop until we reached Sorata. I had originally planned on doing 2 days of biking, but due to heavy rain, my guide, Angel, recommended to do just one day on the trails that can withstand more rain. I checked into my hostel and then toured in the small town.
Loma Loma
The next morning, I met Angel at 9am and drove to the start of our first trail, Loma Loma. Loma Loma starts at 4,200m and the trail is about 18km, mostly downhill with some technical parts. Even though it was really foggy, the ride was really fun. There were some short uphill sections that I enjoyed, but Angel was out of breath on those (he seemed to be suffering from some altitude sickness). Towards the end of Loma Loma, we stopped for some snacks and fruits.
We continued for another 15 minutes to reach the end of Loma Loma where our driver was waiting for us. We drove back to Sorata for lunch and before going back up the mountain to the start of El Medio Eden.
El medio Eden
The second trail for the day is an 11km downhill trail. It is currently rainy season in Bolivia and the trail was really wet and muddy, with lush vegetation protruding into the trail. Towards the end of the trail, there was a really nice view of Sorata and the surrounding mountains and we continued the ride all the way back to Sorata where we had a nice cold beer.
The next day, I checked out of the hostel and took a collectivo back towards Copacabana.
