To Glasgow

AONBs on a bike

August 26

A short cycling day, from Sheffield to Hathersage, passing through the beautiful Peak District National Park.

August 27

Cycling from Hathersage to Keighley through the Peak District National Park, with some very steep climbs and a fully loaded bike. During the ride, I met Graeme, who lives in the region, and we cycled about 30km together.

August 28

Beautiful cycling from Keighley to Hawes through the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Weather-wise, I've been lucky in the UK so far. This was my first encounter with the English rain.

August 29 - 30

Cycling from Hawes to Ambleside through the Lake District National Park. I stayed a total of 2 nights in Ambleside.

On the second day, I did a nice loop around Windermere lake. Having left my stuff at the hostel, the bike felt so weird and light!

August 31

A very short cycling day from Ambleside to Patterdale, going up "The Struggle" with a fully loaded bike 🥵

September 1

Cycling from Patterdale to Alston, passing through the Lake District National Park and the North Pennines AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

September 2

Cycling from Alston to Hadrian's Wall in the Northumberland National Park, with a short hike to see a section of Hadrian's Wall.

September 3

Crossing into Scotland, and cycling from Hadrian's Wall to Moffat. Easy ride along highway service roads, with a constant heavy downpour.

September 4

Another easy riding day from Moffat to Glasgow, with an unfortunate flat tire.
